COLECTIVO MUTUO

In 2017, one of the most devastating weather events in recent years occurred on the Peruvian coast. The overflow of the huaycos affected a large number of coastal areas that required immediate support. It is from this that Mutuo was born, a group of local designers decided to create an open Collective in order to contribute to society using our knowledge and experience in design as a tool. This main objective gives rise to the collective name "Mutuo" representing the common goal that we all have to create a better place for all.

I Independent Social Project 2017 I

In this first situation our purpose was to create a physical bartering space where people could attend and exchange food and basic needs in exchange for pieces of art or design products made by local artists. Thus, food exchanges were also carried out for design workshops dictated by renowned Peruvian designers.

A space was set up with the support and collaboration of the Toulouse Lautrec institute where design studios, designers and teachers came together to raise funds and supplies that would be donated to Cáritas del Perú to support the affected families.

Thanks to this project we were able to collect more than 8 liters of drinkable and potable water, more than 2,500 groceries, medicines, hygiene products and basic necessities. All this was delivered to Cáritas de Perú for distribution in the areas most affected by the disaster.
